If you’ve followed my bear dilemma these last few days, you know that I’ve been a little stressed.  I live in Port Moody, BC.  It’s a city of 34,000 people and is part of the Greater Vancouver Area.  It is an absolutely beautiful, small city but I’m starting to get too scared to enjoy it and today, it just got worse.

We live in this absolutely amazing area of the city where it gives us the feeling that we are living in an urban setting when really, we are in the ‘burbs.  This was a great compromise for my city-loving husband.  He originally wanted to live in Vancouver.  Having grown up in Mexico City, I guess the traffic congestion, exhaust fumes, horn honks and the constant flow of people in downtown Vancouver was appealing to him.  It made him feel at home.  But, we decided to live in Port Moody due to a number of factors including where I would feel most safe and at ease.  We fell in love with an area in the city where we have all the conveniences of city life…grocery stores, cafés, restaurants, shops, liquor stores and so on, all within walking distance.  Our own urban village.

Who would have thought that there would be three bears visiting us yesterday in our neighbourhood?  (Read: Bears in Port Moody Part 2).

And now this:

I was going through my twitter feed tonight and I saw a tweet from the Port Moody City Police:

First bears and now cougars?!  So, they’re telling me that a cougar was one block away from my home?  And not just any cougar, but a LARGE cougar.

I’m sorry but I did not sign up to live in a zoo like Matt Damon.  And to think, I thought I would feel safer here in the suburbs.  I think the crazies of the city are starting to look more appealing to me.  As Alanis Morissette said, “Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?”
